The successful candidate will work on a wide variety of complex R&D projects and will have significant influence on the technical direction of projects and solutions.

Our clients span many industries from the traditional (Petrochemicals, Mining) to the cutting edge (Cleantech, Biotechnology, Environmental Science)

Who you are:

You are someone who tinkers with technology and design as part of your life. You are not satisfied with how equipment and systems work “out of the box” and aren’t afraid to dig around “under the hood”.

Do you have a 3D printer and make parts in your garage? Or are you a weekend bike / car mechanic? Have you built an electric bike from scratch? Do you love cars and have rebuilt a motor in your spare time? Do you love robotics and tinker with microcontrollers? If any of these sound like you, we want to hear from you!

The main responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Designing custom parts, assemblies, and flow loops for use with experimental programs
  • Reviewing, approving, and stamping engineering calculations and drawings
  • Mechanical and process equipment specification
  • Design calculations (pressure drop, heat transfer, stress analysis, etc.)
  • 3D and FEA modeling of equipment
  • Equipment and materials procurement
  • Quality assurance of fabricated and machined components
  • Management of equipment assembly and assistance as required
  • Participation and coordination of commissioning of new equipment/experiments
  • Participation in process hazard assessments (PHA) and generation of safety related procedures
  • Data collection and analysis

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Mechanical design and calculations
  • 3D CAD software
  • Knowledge of ASME design codes and safety regulations
  • Piping systems design
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics
  • Machining, fabrication and assembly experience

Qualification Requirements:

  • BSc. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years experience in Engineering
  • Registered as a P. Eng
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Benefits available to our employees:

  • Health spending account
  • Dental, vision and extended health coverage
  • Travel medical coverage
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage
  • Life Insurance and AD&D
  • Paid time off for sick days and medical reasons

This is an on-site job at Coanda’s Burnaby facility; however some travel may be required to our Edmonton facility to support projects on an as-needed, but infrequent basis. Participating in field projects at customer’s facilities is also a possibility for this position.

Coanda is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. We invite resumes from all interested parties including women, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, and members of visible minorities.

We thank all those that apply; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
