Mechanical Technologist

An exciting opportunity exists in our Burnaby research facility for an energetic and committed Mechanical Technologist. The successful candidate will support lab operations, industrial research projects and experiments for clients in various industries such as oil, energy, natural resources and defense, among many others.

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Operation of Lab experimental rigs and projects
    • Operating flow loops / experimental systems
    • Monitoring and adjusting system parameters
    • Collecting samples / data
    • Working closely with Engineers and Scientists on project execution
    • Equipment maintenance and calibration
  • Analysis of collected samples
    • Operating analytical chemistry equipment
    • Measurements using standard lab techniques
    • Data entry into lab books and spreadsheets
  • Assembly / Build / Design of experimental rigs
    • Design, procurement, QA of parts and fixtures
    • Fabrication and machining as needed on custom parts
    • Assembly of framing, piping and flow loops
    • Modification to existing rigs

Projects and tasks in this position are unique, and as such the skills and experiences we are looking for are diverse. These skills and experiences listed are not required but will be assets.

 

Skills and experience:

  • Hands-on experience with mechanical systems, process equipment, instrumentation and wiring, lab setup, fabrication and machining (shop experience)
  • 2D / 3D CAD (Solidworks preferable)
  • Pumps and pumping systems (gas and liquid)
  • Industrial pipe and tube fitting
  • High pressure systems
  • Laboratory/Industrial environment experience
  • Attention to details and strong organization skills
  • Data analysis experience using Excel, Matlab and/or Origin
  • Photography, lighting and camera set-up experience
  • Forklift certification

Projects will be based mainly out of our industrial laboratory facility in Burnaby. However, there is potential for field work (at client sites) and assignments to our Edmonton office based on project requirements. The candidate must also thrive in a team oriented environment, as well as work well independently.

 

Qualification requirements:

  • 2 year Diploma of Technology in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
  • Excellent written and communication skills, fluency in written and spoken English
