Studying Buoyancy-driven flows

Coanda was contracted by the University of British Columbia to design and build an Exchange flow facility. The facility was designed to facilitate experimentation on buoyancy driven flows between two fluids of different densities.

Some of the features of this design include large span glass sections that provide complete visual access from the sides and bottom while also incorporating a movable internal partition that allows the width of the channel to be adjusted. One other feature of the design was a system that provides maximum run time before reflected waves impact the buoyancy driven flows.

Channel Specifications:

  • Channel Length: 10m
  • Channel Width: 1.8m
  • Channel Depth: 0.6m
